FAQ
Common Questions
Honest answers to the questions Bergen County homeowners ask most, before they call a contractor and after they get three estimates that don't match.
How much does a roof replacement cost in New Jersey?
Our average roof replacement comes in at $8,857.34, and the average roof repair runs $1,208.69. Your number moves with the size and pitch of the roof, the shingle system you pick, and what we find once the old layer comes off. Estimates are free and written after an on-site inspection, never quoted over the phone.
How much does new siding cost?
Our average siding replacement is $16,389.02, and the average siding repair is $1,094.77. Square footage and material drive the difference the most, since fiber cement costs more than vinyl but lasts longer in the New Jersey freeze-thaw cycle.
How long does a roof replacement take?
Most homes are torn off and re-roofed in one to three days. Larger or steeper roofs, and jobs that uncover deck damage, can run longer. We schedule around the weather and confirm the timeline before the crew arrives.
Do you serve my town in Bergen County?
We work out of Hackensack and run crews throughout Bergen, Passaic, Essex, Hudson, and Morris counties. That includes Paramus, Ridgewood, Maywood, Teaneck, Fort Lee, Closter, Oradell, Rochelle Park, and 60+ surrounding towns. Call (551) 335-9235 to confirm your address.
Do you offer free estimates?
Yes. Inspections and written estimates are free with no obligation. We walk the roof or the siding, document what we find with photos, and give you the scope and the number in writing.
Is All Elite Roofing & Siding licensed and insured?
Yes. We hold New Jersey Home Improvement Contractor License #13VH12314700 and carry full liability and workers' compensation insurance. We are also BBB rated A+ and GAF Certified.
What warranty comes with a new roof?
GAF certification lets us install premium GAF shingle systems and register them for full manufacturer warranty coverage, including lifetime shingle options. Our workmanship is guaranteed on top of the manufacturer coverage.
Do you handle emergency roof repairs?
Yes, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Storm damage, active leaks, and wind-lifted shingles get an emergency response so the interior of the home stops taking on water. Call (551) 335-9235 any hour.
What makes All Elite different from other New Jersey roofing contractors?
The company has been family owned since 1999 and is now run by the second generation, so the owners are on the job sites. Roofing, siding, gutters, and the surrounding exterior work are handled by one crew on one schedule with one point of contact, instead of being subcontracted out.
How do I get a quote from All Elite Roofing & Siding?
Call (551) 335-9235 or submit the form on our contact page. We are open Monday through Friday 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, Saturday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and 24/7 for emergencies.
What does a complete roof replacement include?
A full tear-off down to the decking, a deck inspection and spot replacement where boards are soft or damaged, installation of ice-and-water shield at the eaves, starter strip, underlayment, new shingles, drip edge, and ridge cap. Flashing is replaced at every chimney, pipe boot, and wall transition. We do a magnet sweep for nails after we pack out.
Do you ever shingle over an existing layer?
No. We do not shingle over an existing roof. A second layer of shingles conceals deck damage, adds dead weight, traps heat, and voids most manufacturer warranties. We always tear off to deck and inspect what is underneath.
What shingle brands do you install?
We are GAF certified and install the full GAF line, including Timberline HDZ, Timberline UHDZ, and the Designer collection. We can also source and install Owens Corning and CertainTeed systems when a homeowner has a specific preference. GAF certification allows us to register projects for the highest available manufacturer warranty tiers.
How do I know if I need repair or full replacement?
If the shingles have more than 20-25% granule loss, multiple blistered courses, or visible cracking across a wide area, replacement is usually the better long-term investment. If the damage is localized, say a few lifted shingles, flashing separation at a chimney, or a failed pipe boot, a repair often buys several more years. We tell you honestly which category your roof falls into. If a repair is enough, we will tell you, even if replacement would be a larger job for us.
What is ice and water shield and do I need it?
Ice and water shield is a self-adhering waterproof membrane applied to the first few feet of the roof deck at the eaves and in valleys. It protects against water backing up under the shingles during ice dam conditions, which are common in Bergen County winters. NJ code requires it at eaves; we install it in all valleys and around every penetration regardless of code minimum.
How do I know if my siding needs to be replaced?
Peeling paint over more than 15-20% of the surface, soft or punky spots when you press the siding (indicating moisture intrusion), visible warping or buckling, mold or mildew that returns after cleaning, or elevated interior humidity near exterior walls all indicate that the siding or the house wrap underneath has failed. A visual inspection from the exterior is not always enough. We check what is behind the siding on any job where the condition is uncertain.
What is the difference between vinyl siding and James Hardie fiber cement?
Vinyl is lower in material cost, installs faster, never needs painting, and handles freeze-thaw cycles well. James Hardie fiber cement is harder, more impact-resistant, holds paint longer, and has a more dimensional appearance at the surface. Fiber cement is heavier and costs more per square foot installed, but adds more to resale value and is preferred in towns where HOAs or historic zoning have appearance standards. We install both. The choice depends on your budget, the look you want, and how long you plan to stay in the house.
How much do seamless gutters cost?
Our average seamless gutter installation runs $1,847.50, with a per-linear-foot cost of $8 to $16 depending on profile (K-style vs. half-round), material (aluminum vs. copper), and height. Gutter guard systems add to the per-foot cost and vary widely by product. We fabricate gutters on-site, not pre-cut sections joined with seams, which eliminates the most common leak point.
Do NJ homeowners need a permit for a roof replacement?
Many Bergen County municipalities require a permit for a full tear-off and re-roof. Requirements vary by town. Ridgewood, Teaneck, and Fort Lee enforce permit requirements strictly; others do not. We pull permits where they are required and never skip that step to save time. An unpermitted roof replacement can surface during a home sale and complicate title transfer.
How long does new siding last?
Quality vinyl siding installed over proper house wrap typically lasts 25-40 years with minimal maintenance. James Hardie fiber cement can last 50 years with periodic repainting. Longevity depends more on the quality of the installation, particularly the house wrap and moisture management detail, than on the surface material.
Can you match existing siding on a partial replacement or addition?
For vinyl siding, an exact profile and color match requires us to source from the same manufacturer and product line. If the product has been discontinued, we work with the closest available match. For fiber cement, color is applied paint, so matching existing painted siding is more straightforward. We provide a sample before committing to a partial job.
